Tahiti is the best known island of French Polynesia.
Scattered over 5.000.000 kmē, there are 118 islands and atols, divided in 5 groups :
the Society Islands, the Austral Islands, the Marquise Islands, the Tuamotu Islands
and the Gambier Islands.
In French Polynesia there live about 216.000 people.
The capital, on the isle of Tahiti, is Papeete  with approximately 70.000 inhabitants.

French Polynesia is a "Territoire Outre Mer" of France.
People speak French and Tahitian.

We visited Tahiti, Moorea, Tetiaroa and Tahaa on the Society Islands.
In the Tuamotu Islands we only visited the atols of  Manihi (famous for its black pearls) and Rangiroa (2nd large atol in the world, after Kwajalein in Micronesia).
